Generate an Unlimited Amount of Leads for Your Business- Part 2
Last week we focused on where our customers come from and how to record that effectively to work out our conversion rates according to the lead sources.
This week we will look at working out our conversion rates and how to make sure our leads are the right ones.
From Lead to Customer: Conversion Rates
Leads mean nothing to your business unless you convert them into customers. You could get hundreds of leads from a single advertisement, but unless those leads result in purchases, it’s been largely unsuccessful (and costly) campaign.
The ratio of leads (potential customers) to transactions (actual customers) is called your conversion rate. Simply divide the number of customers who actually purchased something by the number of customers who inquired about your product or service, and multiply by 100.
# transactions / # leads x 100 = % conversion rate
If, in a given week, I have 879 customers come into my business, and 143 of them purchase something, the formula would look like this:
[143 (customers) / 879 (leads)] x 100 = 16.25% conversion rate
What’s Your Conversion Rate?
Based on the formula above, you can see that the higher your conversion rate, the more profitable the business.
Now you can determine you own current conversion rate. Add up the number of leads you sourced in the last section, and divide that number into the total transactions that took place in the same week.
Quality (or Qualified) Leads
Based on our review of conversion rates, we can see that the number of leads you generate means nothing unless those leads are being converted into customers.
So what affects your ability (and the ability of your team) to turn leads into customers? Do you need to improve your scripts? Your product or service? Find a more competitive edge in the marketplace?
Maybe. But the first step towards increasing conversion rates is to evaluate the leads you are currently generating, and make sure those leads are the right ones.
What are Quality Leads?
Potential customers are potential customers, right? Anyone who walks into your store or picks up the phone to call your business could be convinced to purchase from you, right? Not necessarily, but this is a common assumption most business owners make.
Quality leads are the people who are the most likely to buy your product or service. They are the qualified buyers who comprise your target market. Anyone might walk in off the street to browse a furniture store – regardless of whether or not they are in the market for a new couch or bed frame. This lead is solely interested in browsing, and is not likely to be converted to a customer.
A quality lead would be someone looking for a new kitchen table, and who specifically drove to that same furniture because a friend had raved about the service they received that month. These are the kinds of leads you need to focus on generating.
How Do You Get Quality Leads?
• Know your target market. Get a handle on who your customers are – the people who are most likely to buy your product or service. Know their age, sex, income, and purchase motivations. From that information you can determine how best to reach your specific audience.
• Focus on the 80/20 rule. A common statistic in business is that 80% of your revenue comes from 20% of your customers. These are your star clients, or your ideal clients.
These are the clients you should focus your efforts on recruiting. This is the easiest way to grow your business and your income.
• Get specific. Focus not only on who you want to attract, but how you’re going to attract them. If you’re trying to generate leads from a specific market segment, craft a unique offer to get their attention.
• Be proactive. Once you’ve generated a slew of leads, make sure you have the resources to follow up on them. Be diligent and aggressive, and follow up in a timely manner.
You’ve done the work to get them, now reel them in.

Across a metric of statistics it’s clear that America’s interest in the WNBA is at the highest point this century in large part because of Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark. Let’s start simple: Google searches. They’ve been higher this WNBA season starting with the draft in April than at any point since we’ve had data 2004. Searches for the WNBA are up over 300 compared to last season up over 850 compared to five seasons ago and have risen nearly 1400 from a decade ago. That is the WNBA has been rising and this year it really took off. This interest has translated into revenue for the league. Attendance is up a staggering 48 from 2023. There wasn’t a single team with an average regular season home attendance of five figures 10000 in 2023. This season there were six. Leading the charge was Clark’s Fever. A little more than 4000 people attended their average game in 2023 which ranked them second to last. This season more than 17000 did a 319 rise that put them far and away ahead of any other WNBA team and ahead of five NBA teams including the hometown Indiana Pacers. We see the same pattern in merchandise. Sales are up 600 from last year. This includes the boost from rookie sensations Clark who had the best-selling jersey and Angel Reese of the Chicago Sky who had the second-best-selling jersey.

Several states have passed laws attempting to restrict cell phone use in schools and California Gov. Gavin Newsom recently signed legislation requiring school districts to regulate cell phone use. An auction house in England has withdrawn human remains, including shrunken heads and ancestral skulls, from sale following an outcry.
The Swan auction house in Tetsworth, Oxfordshire withdrew more than two dozen lots from an upcoming auction titled “The Curious Collector Sale,” including an 18th-century Tsantsa shrunken head, which was expected to fetch ?20,000-?25,000 ($26,000-$33,000) and was previously owned by Hugh Hefner, founder of Playboy magazine.
Other withdrawn lots include an ancestral skull from the Solomon Islands, another from the Fon tribe in Benin and a double ancestor skull from Congo.
The planned sale of another piece, described as a 19th-century horned Naga human skull, drew criticism from Neiphiu Rio, Chief Minister of the Indian state of Nagaland.
Rio wrote to India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, asking him to intervene “to ensure that the auction of the human remains of our people is halted.”
In his letter, Rio said he had been informed about the auction by the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR), a grouping of organizations that works to reconcile different Naga political groups, some of which have engaged in armed struggle for independence from India in recent decades.
In its letter to Rio, the FNR said it “condemns this inhumane and violent practice where indigenous ancestral human remains continue to be collector’s items.”
“Such auctions continue the policy of dehumanization and colonial violence on the Naga people,” it added.
Another of those to criticize the planned sale was Laura Van Broekhoven, director of the Pitt Rivers Museum, which is part of the University of Oxford.
“Please, immediately pull from tomorrow’s auction the human and ancestral remains of Naga, Shuar, Dayak, Kota, Fon, Vili people and other communities in Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Nigeria, Congo, Ecuador, Nagaland, Benin,” she wrote in a post on X on Tuesday.

The comet successfully reached perihelion, its closest point to the sun in its orbital path around the parent star, on September 27, and was visible for those in the Southern Hemisphere in September and early October. On Saturday, the comet will come within about 44 million miles (nearly 71 million kilometers) of Earth. The comet is making its first documented flyby of our planet, according to NASA. Those looking to catch a glimpse of the once-in-a-lifetime event will want to look in the western part of the night sky, shortly after sunset, according to EarthSky.
The comet will look like a bright fireball in the dark sky with a long, extended tail. Bill Cooke, lead of NASA’s Meteoroid Environment Office at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, recommends a pair of binoculars for enhanced viewing of the comet.
“It’s not going to zing across the sky like a meteor. It will just appear to hang there, and it will slowly change position from night to night,” Cooke said. “If you can see (the comet) with your unaided eye, (using) the binoculars will knock your socks off.”
