Maximise Your Resources – Part 3

Posted by vernonsimpson on March 24, 2013

In the last post we talked about three more ways you can work on maximising your current resources. They included:

  • Reveal your business’ soul
  • From breaking even to breaking the bank
  • Stand up and stand out

Today we’ll talk about the last three areas you can work on to maximise your current resources. They are:

  • An offer they can’t refuse
  • Would you like fries with that?
  • Stay away from the edge of the cliff

An Offer They Can’t Refuse

The secret to success is to stay ahead of your competitors- maintain the competitive edge. To do that you need make it easier for your customers/clients to say “yes” rather than “no”. You do this by eliminating all the psychological, financial, physical, emotional and other road blocks they may have.

You can take the risks for them by offering warranties and guarantees that make the customer feel more confident in you, your business and your products/services. You also must be serious about your offer and follow through if a situation does arise. The quickest way to the bottom is to play games or take back a warranty or guarantee.

Would You Like Fries With That?

It’s the oldest trick in the book. I mean, really, how many times a week do you fall for it? Every time you sell a product or service, you need to offer an add-on, upgrade or back-end product to go with it. These products must be complimentary to the original product being purchased and must create a higher perceived value.

Avoid the Edge of the Cliff

Continuing to test and measure your systems, products, marketing methods and all other aspects of your business allow you to see problems before they happen and therefore avoid falling off the edge of the cliff.

Here are a few specific areas you can test for potential improvements:

  • Marketing
  • Sales Copy
  • Customer Service
  • Sales Letters
  • Sales Presentations
  • Employee-Customer Interaction

Through testing these different areas you will find products/services where you can raise the price, maybe others where you can lower the price or offer that product as an incentive item, and find many others areas for improvement that will better utilise your current resources.

This wraps up our series on how to maximise on your current resources. If you need help working through any of these or the previous areas, try our FREE test drive to work with one of our amazing business coaches.

In this file photo from April 19, an Egyptian doctor checks a patient’s
lung X-ray at the infectious diseases unit of the Imbaba
    hospital in the capital Cairo

Three months after Egypt reported its first novel coronavirus case, medical experts warn the strained
healthcare system of the Arab world’s most populous nation is nearing a “critical threshold”.

Hospitals have been hit by a flight of doctors abroad in recent
years while the frontline staff left behind face shortages of medical supplies and protective gear that heightens the risk of infection.

The North African country of more than 100 million people has declared more than 13,000 cases and over
600 deaths from COVID-19 — and daily new infections are still on the rise.

The country’s 17 isolation hospitals reserved for novel coronavirus patients reached their
maximum capacity at the start of the month, deputy health minister Ahmed al-Sobki told local press.

Since early May, the healthcare sector has indeed been approaching the “critical threshold of its capacity,” said Ayman Sabae, a health expert at the non-government Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights.

In recent years, as Egypt was shaken by political turmoil, many
medical professionals have moved overseas in search
of better opportunities, leaving it with just one physician per 1,000
people, according to the doctor’s union.

As the virus caseload has mounted, the remaining healthcare
workers have born the brunt of the crisis, often at very low pay.

“How can I build my life with a monthly salary of 1,800 Egyptian pounds (105 euros)? It’s impossible,”
said Mohamed Ibrahim, a 26-year-old nurse at the Cairo Oncology
    Center.

To get by, Ibrahim works two jobs, also doing shifts in the private sector for a further 4,000
    pounds (234 euros) per month.

    – ‘Who will help us?’ –

A picture taken by a doctor at a Cairo hospital
shows radiology technicians posing for a picture in a lab in the isolation ward
    for COVID-19 patients

The World Health Organisation says health care providers account for some 13 percent of total coronavirus infections in Egypt.

“We are terrified,” said Ibrahim, adding that at least 17 of his colleagues
had tested positive for the illness. “Who will help us if we all get infected?”

Healthcare workers who show symptoms face difficulties getting tested, said Mona Mina, a member of the doctor’s union complaints committee.

She said they are often denied the so-called polymerase
chain reaction (PCR) genetic tests and instead offered cheaper
and less effective rapid diagnostic tests.

Another major concern, Mina said, has been a paucity of
surgical masks which have been doled out only in driblets to healthcare
providers — a shortfall partially offset by donations
    from non-government groups.

At the same time Cairo has sent tons of masks and other personal protective equipment to several foreign countries in what analysts
see as a bid to burnish Egypt’s international image.

Many, including Mina, have criticised such aid initiatives as “incomprehensible”.

Egypt this year allocated 1.2 percent of its gross domestic product, or around 4.3 billion euros,
to the health system — less than half of the three percent stipulated in the constitution, according to Sabae.

An Egyptian doctor adjusts the protective mask covering a young patient’s
face at the infectious diseases unit of a Cairo hospital

Nonetheless he believes the sector has shown a great
    “adaptive capacity” amid the crisis.

Authorities have opened dozens of test centres and are equipping some 35
    hospitals to receive COVID-19 cases.

One million tests had been carried out by early May, of which 105,000
were PCR, according to Mohamed Awad Tageddine, health advisor to President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi.

Egypt, which was equipped with about 7,000 ventilators before the
crisis, has also ordered new units, he said.

And Egypt’s military, which has recently begun producing face
masks, might even set up makeshift hospitals as a last resort, according to the
    EIPR group.

    – Curve yet to peak –

Despite the desperate situation in the hospitals, Egypt has gradually
eased confinement measures to revive the battered economy.

The government had since late March imposed a night-time curfew, halted air traffic, shuttered religious sites and closed
    schools and universities.

But it eased the restrictions in recent weeks, hearted by
what is considered a relatively low infection rate in the youthful
country where 60 percent of people are below 30.

Yet some experts fear the worst is still to come. While the number of daily deaths has remained relatively stable, daily new infections hit a record of 720 cases on Tuesday.

A picture taken by a doctor at a Cairo hospital on April 29 shows medical staff intubating a coronavirus patient

The doctors’ union in early May urged the government to impose a
total lockdown during the Islamic holy fasting month of Ramadan.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli dismissed that option but on Sunday urged people to adhere to measures like wearing face masks as Egypt
    moves to relax restrictions.

Mina said in a Facebook post that “when the government shrinks curfew hours, it is basically telling people to do what they want … It is a shame to then blame it on a lack of awareness”.

Sabae warned that the “authorities really need to change their approach because Egypt has yet to reach the peak of the curve”.

A solitary sloth bear gave a tiger the fright of its life as
it stood on its hind legs and chased it off a field.

Footage shows the tiger wandering along the landscape, appearing to show
the signs of a mega drought,  in Ranthambore National Park in Rajasthan, India.

The animal slowly strays from its path and approaches the
sloth bear which is lingering around a spot of shrubs.

One of the tigers creeps towards the sloth bear, who appears to have
found a scent, in Ranthambore National Park in Rajasthan, India

Seconds later, the sloth bear moves away and the tiger follows close behind.

Appearing to have caught on to the stalking animal, the bear
abruptly turns around and jumps on its hind legs.

It leaps in to the air before running after the tiger.

It then balances on its back legs to intimidate the tiger once again.

As the sloth bear moves closer, the tiger head towards a companion.

Its tiger friend stands and watches the sloth bear jump on its hind legs as though he is immune
    to the intimidation tactic.

Meanwhile the other tiger sprints off.

Parimal Nathwani, who shared the clip, wrote: ‘Wildlife

It then chases the other safari animal. When threatened, they respond by standing on their hind legs
    and displaying their foreclaws

It has been viewed more than 30k times by animal-lovers.

Ravi Arora said: ‘All animals fear taller animals. Sloth bear intelligently used
    this fact.’

The two biggest beasts have been long-known for getting into heated
    fights.

Most famously, a Bengal tiger and sloth bear were filmed viciously fighting at Tadoba National Park in Maharashtra state in 2018.

A sloth bear stands on its hind legs to try and deter tigers from stalking

The sloth took a bite into the tiger’s leg and struggled to pin it down.

In April 2019, a tiger was found dead in a watering hole in Dudhwa National Park, India, with neck injuries suggesting they were attacked by a sloth bear.

Sloth bears tend to hold the upper-hand in fights, with various rangers
observing sloths slapping tigers and forcing the animal to immediately flee.

When threatened, they respond by standing on their hind legs and displaying their foreclaws.

However tigers killing sloth bears is more common, according to conservationists.

Altercations have centred around the safari animals access to a watering hole.

Welcome to Ice City: Russia plans to build
frozen community 1,000 miles from North Pole…
as race for Arctic minerals heats up

Russia is to build an ultra-modern city
on a frozen island deep inside the Arctic
Circle – in the Kremlin’s latest move to back its claim to vast oil and gas reserves under the polar
    ice cap.

Named Umka, after a popular Soviet polar bear cub cartoon hero, the initial 5,
000 residents will live under a vast dome to
protect themselves from temperatures sinking below minus 30C in winter.

‘This city will be of strategic importance as Russia’s northern outpost,’ said architect Valery Rzhevskiy who
has shown its modernistic designs to an approving
    Vladimir Putin.

Extraordinary: The city will cost up to £4 billion and be built on the remote island of Kotelniy,
in the Novosibirsk archipelago, some 1,000 miles from the North
    Pole

Vast: The Umka designs are based on the International Space Station but in comparison is much larger – one mile long and 800
    yards wide

Sources say it is likely to house soldiers, border guards and secret service officers, as well as scientists and explorers, as Moscow gets serious
    about claiming Arctic mineral riches.

All will enjoy a luxury lifestyle in the cocoon with its own specially regulated temperate climate – including many
facilities to make inhabitants of other cities envious.

‘We aim to have scientific laboratories, houses, but also parks with attractions, an Aqua
complex, hotels and a cathedral. Naturally there will be schools, kindergartens, recreation zones, a hospital, and sport facilities are
    planned, too,’ said Rzhevskiy.

‘We want people who will be living and working here not to realise they are
in some closed space with an aggressive Arctic climate outside.’

The extraordinary venture – nicknamed ‘wonder city’ – will be built at a cost of up to £4 billion on the remote island of Kotelniy, in the Novosibirsk archipelago
, some 1,000 miles from the North Pole, closer than any other Russian city.

Strong winds make it one of the most inhospitable places on the planet, and
even in summer it barely climbs over freezing point.

Bleak: Strong winds make the area one of the most
inhospitable places on the planet, and even in summer it barely
    climbs over freezing point

The Umka designs are based on the International Space
Station, but it is vast by comparison – just short of one
mile long and 800 yards wide.

‘So far it’s the only project in the world with an artificial climate and integral life support
    – just like on the space station. Not only is it a
new word in architecture, but in human living too. We have used aero and space
    technologies while creating it.’

on the space station. Not only is it a new word in architecture, but in human living too.
We have used aero and space technologies while creating it.’

    – Valery Rzhevskiy, architect

Electricity will be supplied by a floating nuclear power station.
Food wise, it will be totally self-sufficient with fish and poultry
farms, greenhouses, a wheat processing factory
    and bakeries.

‘There will not be any rubbish at all, as the city will have two  factories converting all kinds into ashes.’

It will house workers for local mines and oil platforms
which should pay the costs of the development, it is claimed.

‘This project is designed to work on any surface, even on the Moon if needed,’
said Rzhevskiy, one of Russia’s top architects.

The ice city plans – currently with no fixed timetable for
opening – comes as all countries with territory touching Arctic
waters are gearing up to make competing demands to the
United Nations over underwater mineral exploitation rights.

Western countries were stung when in 2007 Russian polar
explorer Artur Chilingarov placed his country’s flag in the
    Arctic seabed in 2007.

‘We must prove the north pole is an extension of
the Russian land mass,’ he said at the time.

A Canadian think tank this year even warned that
‘an arms race maybe beginning’, expressing concerns at
    the risk of conflict.

The U.S., Canada, Norway and Russia have all boosted their naval presence in Arctic waters amid warnings
of a Cold War that could literally be cold – except perhaps at Umka.
